More information about the Gordon C. Greene

Lions.jpeg

On Oct. 15, 2014, I was an invited guest speaker for the Hannibal Lions Club. This web site was my topic of conversation, and we discussed the Gordon C. Greene steamboat (see separate blog posting on this site) that plied the Mississippi River from 1923 to 1949.

After its retirement, the boat spent two seasons moored to the Illinois shoreline directly across from Hannibal, Mo., and was used as a museum and restaurant.

Mike Marx, past president of the Lions Club, was a busboy aboard the riverboat, by now renamed the River Queen, for about a week during that era. Marx, who went on to a career as a representative for actors in Hollywood, told me of three movies that this riverboat appeared in, and Jim Humphreys came up with a fourth.

In the near future I will compile a story containing this information and more for the Hannibal Courier-Post, and I will post more blog entries on this site.

Check back - this information will be worth the wait, I promise.
