Thomas Easly passes away Wednesday morn
Hannibal, Dec. 1 – At 1:40 o’clock yesterday morning occurred the death of Thomas Easly, colored, at his home at 516 North Ninth street, at the age of 63 years. Deceased was born in Palmyra and had resided in the county his entire life and for 50 years had been an employee of the Burlington railroad in this city.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Helping Hand Baptist church and interment will be made at Robinson’s cemetery.
Mr. Easly was one of the most prominent colored men in the city and was probably the best known man of his race in the county. He is survived by his wife and one sister. Quincy Daily Journal, Dec. 1, 1921

Hannibal, Dec. 4 – Mrs. Ethel Reader, colored, wife of Marvin Reader, 1256 Lyon street, died Wednesday morning at 7 o’clock in St. Elizabeth’s hospital.

Mrs. Enix, Hannibal, died Wednesday
Matilda Enix, Negress, 60, died at Levering hospital at 6:45 o’clock Wednesday morning. She had been ill for about two weeks.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Helping Hand Baptist church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. The pastor, the Rev. C.R. McDowell, will conduct the services. Burial will be at Robinson cemetery. Quincy Daily Herald, Dec. 31, 1925.

George Mason’s funeral Sunday
George Mason, colored, aged 71 years, died at 11 o’clock Thursday night in his home, 2009 Spruce street, following two weeks’ illness.
Surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Reed; three sisters, Mrs. Ben Hawker, Mrs. Charlotte Henderson of this city, and Mrs. Dorcas Riley of Kansas City, Kan. His wife, the late Rev. Lena Mason, was an evangelist in the A.M.E. Church. He was affiliated with Braxton Lodge, No. 28, A.F. and A.M.
The remains were removed to Roberts funeral parlors and prepared for burial. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon from the family residence, conducted by Rev. Wilbur Bradshaw. Interment will be in Robinson cemetery. Hannibal Courier-Post, Oct. 18, 1929

Dr. Louis Morris, colored, died in the county hospital here Sunday night. He was 63 years of age and formerly lived in Hannibal. He is survived by an uncle and aunt, both of whom live in Hannibal. The body was taken to Hannibal for funeral and burial was in Robinson cemetery. May 30, 1934, Marion County Standard.

Death of Mrs. Minnie Reading
Mrs. Minnie Reading, formerly of Palmyra, died Monday evening in her home 4 miles west of Hannibal. She is survived by her husband, Angus Reading; six daughters, Mary Belle, Rosalie, Ella, Georgia, Florence and Mrs. Louise Kerr; three sons, Daniel, Theodore and William Reading; two brothers, Nelson Clay of New London and Rufus Eaton, of Palmyra; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Sephus and Mrs. Rosie Conn, both of Quincy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday from the Eighth and Center Streets Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. C. Lopez McAllister. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery. Dec. 29, 1937, Marion County Standard

Edward Tyler, an aged colored resident of the Ely vicinity, died at 11 o’clock Saturday night in his home. He was 79 years old. Three brothers, Reuben, John and Andrew Tyler, all of Hannibal and survive. He was a member of the Park Chapel Baptist Church in Palmyra. The remains were removed to the Roberts funeral home in Hannibal and prepared for burial. Funeral services were held from the Roberts chapel Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. R. Hancock. John M. Green, of Palmyra, route 2, died at three o’clock Wednesday morning in Levering Hospital in Hannibal. He was 60 years old. The body was removed to the Roberts funeral home in Hannibal, where funeral services were held Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. G.E. Sanders, pastor of the Helping Hand Baptist church, Hannibal. Burial was in Robinson cemetery, in Hannibal. He is survived by two sisters, Blanche Howard, Palmyra, and Susie Smith, of Hannibal. Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson died at two o’clock Saturday morning in her home here. She was 92 years old and had been ill for about two years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Fields, Iowa, and Mrs. Lena Green, of Palmyra. The remains were removed to the Roberts funeral home in Hannibal. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Helping Hand church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Robert E. Sanders. Burial was in the Robinson cemetery. Mrs. Bessie Clay of Palmyra Route 2, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 12, at 2:40 o’clock in Levering hospital, Hannibal.
Funeral services were held at the Allen Chapel AME church in Hannibal, Saturday afternoon. Rev. K.B. Byrd, former pastor of the church, was in charge. Burial was in Robinson Cemetery.
Mrs. Clay was born July 26, 1904, in Frankford.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph Clay; four sisters, Mrs. Elnora Campbell, Mrs. Pearl Martin and MRs. Willa Mae Jackson of Frankford, and Mrs. Vivian Anderson of Hannibal; one brother, Theodore Blackwell, of Hannibal. Feb. 18, 1953, Palmyra Spectator.

Find boy’s body near Saverton Dam
The body of Ira Delroy French, nine year old son of Warren French of Palmyra, was found Thursday afternoon about 5:15 in the vicinity of Lock and Dam 22, near Saverton. The boy disappeared while swimming in the Mississippi at the foot of Hill street in Hannibal, six days early.
Dale Adams, a fisherman, sighted the body and notified the lockmaster, George Kinsley.
Burial rites were held at Robinson cemetery in Hannibal, in charge of Roberts Funeral Home. Memorial services were conducted later.
The child lived in Palmyra before going to Hannibal to make his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Luckett. His mother is Juanita Dean of Hannibal. He was an only child. The father formerly was employed with Pratt Linoleum company here.
A companion reported the boy missing after he disappeared from a raft on which a group of young swimmers was playing. Authorities made an extensive search but were unable to locate the remains. Palmyra Spectator Aug. 5, 1953

Joseph Lee Dant, 83, was found dead at his home in Mt. Vernon community of Warren township, Thursday afternoon, Feb. 3.
Coroner Harold O’Donnell, who was called to the scene, ruled that an inquest was unnecessary.
The aged man was survived by three children, Mrs. Mary Pinkard of Hannibal, Elmer Dant of Vandalia and Lee Dant of Quincy; and one sister, Mrs. Rosa Blackwell of Jackson, Mich.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Roberts Funeral Home in Hannibal, with the Rev. Anna Conyers of Bowling Green in charge.
Burial was in Robinson cemetery, Hannibal, Feb. 10, 1955, Palmyra Spectator.

Native of Palmyra dies in Hannibal
James Houston Sparks, 56, passed away at his home in Hannibal Saturday morning at 4:30.
A native of Palmyra, he was born July 24, 1899.
Surviving are the following relatives, one daughter, Miss Anna Mae Sparks, one brother, Jesse Owens, two sisters, Mrs. Belle Robinson and Mrs. Vernice Allen, all of Hannibal.
Services were held at Commonwealth Mortuary, Thursday afternoon with the Rev. J. Silas Daniels in charge. Burial was in Robinson Cemetery. Aug. 11, 1955, Palmyra Spectator.

Native of Palmyra buried in Hannibal
Funeral services for Richard Hart, 62, who died in Chicago, Oct. 30, were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. William Anderson officiated and interment was in Robinson Cemetery.
Mr. Hart was the son of Laura and Joseph Hart and was born in Palmyra. He left here about 30 years ago residing in Chicago, where he was a city park attendant.
He is survived by two sisters, Miss Mary Hart of Hannibal and MRs. Mabel Austin of Seattle, Wash. Nov. 10, 1955, Palmyra Spectator

James C. Cole Jr.
Mrs. Fannie Mae Cravens of Moberly has received word of the death of her nephew, James C. Cole Jr., 25, Los Angeles, Calif., who was shot and killed while en route to work in the post office there.
Other Moberly survivors include two aunts, Mrs. Rae Ellen Green and Mrs. Georgia Lee Glasgow, and two uncles, Healthel Carter and Basil Carter.
The body will be returned to the Robinson Mortuary in Hannibal, where the family moved some time ago from Moberly. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Church of God in Christ at Hannibal. Burial will be in Robinson Cemetery in Hannibal. Moberly Monitor Index, Oct. 29, 1965

Mrs. Dorothy Irving, 79, of Kansas City, formerly of Hannibal, Mo., will be at 2 o’clock Saturday at the Eighth and Center Street Baptist church, Hannibal. Burial will be in the Robinson cemetery, Hannibal. Friends may call at the Lewrence A. Jones Linwood chapel.
Surviving are her husband, William Irving, Hannibal; a son, Joseph Gentry Marcellus of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Jackson, Hannibal, and Mrs. Mary Thomas, Beatrice, Neb.; and four grandchildren.

Miss Velma Odessa Queen, of 2003 Prospect, Kansas City, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital. Miss Queen was born in Hannibal, Mo., and had lived here (Kansas City) for 10 years. She was a retired teacher at Douglass High School, Hannibal. She had taught high school in Sedalia. She was a graduate of Douglass High School and Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She also attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She leaves a brother, Dr. M.M. Queen, 2006 Prospect. Mrs. Bessie Mae Johnson, 89, died Sunday morning at the Levering Hospital in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allen Chapel AME Church in Hannibal, conducted by the Rev. Raymond Mallory. Burial will be at the Robinson Cemetery at Hannibal.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 28, 1888, in Woodland. She lived in Hannibal until 1956 when because of ill health she moved to Mexico to live with her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Basel Pritchette, who survive.
Other survivors include a son, Gilbert Tate, and daughter in law Annabelle Tate, of Chicago; a brother, Charles Taylor of Palmyra; two sisters, Mrs. John bell of LaBelle and Mrs. Arnold Davis of Chicago; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. May 17, 1977, Mexico Ledger.

Ruby Marcella Campbell, 91, of Springfield, Mo., died at 1:55 a.m. Monday, May 1, 1995, in Doctors Hospital.
She was born in New Franklin, Mo., June 28, 1903, to Lawyer and Pearl Estill.
Ruby married the late Rev. Harlan C. Campbell in 1936. The Rev. Campbell pastored in Chillicothe and Kansas City, Mo. Ruby, a former resident, returned to Springfield in 1988 from Kansas City.
She was a member of Timmons Temple Church of God in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harlan; and her brother Oscar Estill.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Oscar Zanthanese and Margaret Morrison, Springfield, and George L. and Katherine Green, Hannibal; a niece, Gloria Wilson, Belleville, Ill; sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Estill, Hannibal; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; other relatives, and a host of friends.
Services were at the Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Rev. David Knox Jr. officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, 1995, in Robinson Cemetery, Hannibal, Mo. The Springfield News Leader, May 3, 1995
