The 1950s Huck Finn Basketball Tournament

The mid 1950s Huck Finn Basketball Tournament was the last cross-town rivalry of the four junior high schools. The Douglass Eagles won the tournament under the coaching of O. E. Estill (second row, far left). The team members are first row, left to right, Leon Jackson, Larry Thompson, James Campbell, Sam Williams, Arch Allison, Gale Conley, and William Kirk. Second row, Coach Estill, Isaac Harris, Robert Howard, Thomas Woodson, Harold Stanton, and Gabriel Hale. After this tournament, the Eagles would merge with the other teams into the Hannibal High School Pirates. This photo, taken by Otis Howell, was contributed by M.K.
