1931: Former slave buried at Macon

Following funeral services at Hannibal this afternoon, the body of Mrs. Charity Carter, colored, 101 year old ex-slave was brought to Macon for interment at Woodlawn cemetery.
Mrs. Carter died Saturday at the U.B.F. Home at Hannibal. She was a servant in the Dr. E.S. Smith home here before the Civil War.
