Hannibal Clipper Dec. 11, 1875: Burglar stole 'family' groceries

Last night some person broke into the grocery store of John Mead & Co., of Stringtown, just west of this city, and stole goods of the value of perhaps $30. The burglar effected an entrance by taking out a pane of glass in the door, the pane being 15x20, making room enough for a good-sized man to enter. Th egress was through the back door, which was found open in the morning. The goods were "family groceries," arguing the burglar to be a "family man" suffering from a lean larder. No arrests yet.
