1959: Close call for bakery clerk Louise Timbrook

Mrs. Mildred Whitten, Oakwood, was making a lelft turn at Link's Superama on Nov. 3, 1959, when a pot of coffee overturned and caused her to lose control of the vehicle. Mrs. Whitten was taking lunch to her husband at work. The car veered into a post, knocked it down and then ran into the display of bushels of apples. Some of the apples were pushed hard enough to break the plate glass window. Louise Timbrook, visible inside the store, was working in the pastry department. She saw the car coming and was able to get out of harm's way. The business was located on McMaster's Avenue, site of the current Casey's. OTIS HOWELL PHOTO/STEVE CHOU COLLECTION
