Rev. Mason offers sage advice to parents

1899 Mason KC Journal, Jan 21 _edited.png

On Sept. 25, 1896, Lena Mason of Hannibal offered these sage words to parents, as published in the Denver Post, accessed via genealogybank.com

“I wish everybody would make their children behave at home. Then they would know how to behave in public. If you don’t teach the young ones manners at home, they ain’t going to have manners anywhere. You think your children are too good to be whipped. That’s the reason so many of them are in jail and in the penitentiary.”
